Aluminum awning creaking and “ticking”?
We just got a new aluminum awning installed over our deck. The size is 20′ x 10′. It’s brown on the outside and white on the inside. On hot sunny days, it seems to do a lot of creaking and making “ticking” noises (Like a hot car engine). Does this sound like it’s from the heat? Or is there a “settling in” period? Haven’t had experience with aluminum before. We had a canvas awning previously. Before I contact the installer I wanted to ask if anyone else experienced these noises. Thank you
Yeah that sounds like the awning expanding and contracting with the change in temperature. Aluminium is a good heat conductor. It will continue to happen, but you’ll probably just get used to it and not even realize it’s happening.
