Would you recommend an awning as a patio cover?
I'm looking for the "sunset retractable awning." Two other alternatives are: (i) building a cover made of a wooden frame, (ii) obtain a large patio umbrella!
I've done all three and now has a wood patio cover more half of the courtyard and a series of umbrellas on the other. Awnings have come a long way that most are made of Sunbrella fabric that does not fade, mildew or fungus. But unless you get the remote device controlled retraction, with a little effort to manipulate. Additionally, the device that keeps each side has some valuable space in the yard and redirect traffic around them. Furthermore, we live in an area prone to strong winds and found himself unable to manage our Santa Anas without damage. At least the permanent structure, not to worry so much about tearing the house, damaging our patio furniture or having to run around and crank down during high winds. I've been known to chase one of the umbrellas that go in the air, however …
